Puri temple servitors to face dismissal for repeated indiscipline in rituals

Puri: With a view to ensure timely observance of rituals at Srimandir here, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) on Tuesday decided to dismiss a servitor if the concerned person indulges in indiscipline for three consecutive times while performing rituals.

“We have decided that action will be taken against the servitors for rituals. If an individual servitor is found deliberately delaying the ritual, he will be debarred from seva (service),” SJTA chief administrator Pradipta Mahapatra said.

The SJTA has also decided that any default by any servitor in performance of duty or late reporting will attract penal provisions.

As per new norms, 15-minute delay would cost the servitor 25 per cent of his day’s wages while 30-minute delay would lead to deduction of 50 per cent of wages. Delay of more than an hour would result in non-payment of remuneration, the Chief Administrator informed.

The decision followed the incident on December 28 last year, in which the servitors did not open the doors of sanctum santrum for about 12 hours forcing deities to go hungry while hundred of devotees failed to offer prayers at the 1200- year old shrine.
