Puri Srimandir reforms: Amicus curiae to arrive on Sept 20

Puri: In compliance with the directive of the Supreme Court to submit a report on Srimandir reforms, amicus curiae Gopal Subramaniam will arrive here on September 20 to discuss 12 proposals with the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).

In a statement to the media, SJTA Chief Administrator, Pradipta Mohapatra said, “The amicus curiae will have a discussion with the Shankaracharya of the Gobardhan Peeth Swami Nischalananda Saraswati and the Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingh Deb on September 21 and 22.” He added that, the amicus curiae will also discuss reforms proposals with the Chhatisha Nijog, SJTA and the Temple Managing Committee.

“12 proposals will be discussed during the meeting, and the focus will be on three— hereditary service of the servitors, Dana Dakshina and amendment to the Jagannath Temple Act, which have been vehemently opposed by the Chhatisha Nijog,” Mohapatra said.

Notably, the apex court had appointed the amicus curiae Gopal Subramaniam and asked him to submit a report on September 5 on implementation of these 12 reforms proposals after discussiond with the Shankaracharya, the Gajapati Maharaja, the servitors’ bodies, SJTA and the Temple Managing Committee.
