Puri: The Puri District Administration officials on Wednesday found the ‘duplicate’ keys of the inner chamber of Srimandir’s Ratna Bhandar (treasury) in the record room of the district collectorate.
Puri Collector and deputy chief administrator of Srimandir Aravind Agrawal said that a 4-member team searching for the key found it inside a sealed envelope inside a strong box in the district record room.
On the other hand, the recovery of the ‘duplicate’ keys has been criticized by Shree Jagannath Sena convenorPriyadarshan Patnaik, who also sought a clarification from the Collector.
“I am surprised how the duplicate keys were found suddenly after the appointment of new chief administrator. Moreover, the envelope in which the Collector claims to have found the keys is of present time. He should show the keys to the public and clear the air. Rules don’t permit duplicate keys and we want to know which government had ordered to make the duplicate key, ” reacted Panda while speaking to media persons.
OPCC chief Niranjan Pattnaik also came down heavily on Odisha Government and tweeted last night questioning the veracity of facts on how duplicate keys could be found when rules don’t permit duplicate keys.
So, reportedly, duplicate keys of Ratna Bhandar have been found.
The rules don’t permit duplicate keys.
Where were these keys all this while?
Why was the Govt silent on the existence of duplicate keys?
And there are still the original keys, which the Govt is clueless about!

The issue had sparked huge public outcry in the state after news broke about the missing keys, earlier this month. The State Government was attacked by the Opposition. Even Shankaracharya of Puri Swami Nischalananda Saraswati had slammed the State Government for the incident on June 3. He said that Odisha Government and the temple administration have failed to discharge their responsibilities. Following which CM Naveen Patnaik on June 6 ordered judicial inquiry into the circumstances leading to the disappearance of the key.
Retired Orissa HC judge Justice Raghubir Das was appointed to head the inquiry commission and submit a report within 3 months.
Meanwhile, the state government today issued notification regarding setting up the inquiry commission that will probe into the missing keys matter. The Terms of Reference (ToR) have also been announced.
