Puri: After Konark’s Chandrabhaga Beach, Puri Sea Beach is all set to get a ‘Blue Flag Certification’. The Federation of Environment Education (FEE), a Denmark-based organization, has selected the stretch between Digabareni Chowk and Hotel Mayfair on Puri’s Golden beach for Blue Flag certification.

To get the certification, a beach needs to comply with at least 33 pre-conditions. This includes the quality of sea water, toilet, changing rooms, bathrooms, first aid centres, solar lighting and parking lots.

According to the Ministry of Forest and Environment, apart from Puri, total 13 beaches of India will now have environment-friendly resources to transform them to international standards.

While Central Government will be investing Rs. 10 crore for the project, the Society for Integrated Coastal Management (SICOM) will be providing Rs. 2 crore for the project.
