Puri: Education in the Adal Primary and Higher Secondary school in Kanas block of Puri hasy been seriously affected by flooding of the school premises by heavy rains recently. The school gets waterlogged every time there is a downpour. For the students studying in the school, wading through the water to attend the classes has become a daily routine now.

An earthen bund has been constructed to stop the rain water from flooding the school, but in vain.

The students have complained about the lack of school facilities, shortage of teachers, teachers who don’t show up, the quality of education etc.

There are around 103 odd students from grade six to eight and a total of 277 students from  grade nine and ten respectively. While only four teachers have been assigned for the students of grade six to eight, only two out of the four teachers assigned for grade nine and ten show up. The students say that students have a tough time learning their lessons in English, Maths and Science due to the poor quality of teaching.

The flooding water has not been drained out as the land meant for draining the water has been encroached upon by an unidentified person.

Tehsildar Sanjay Pratihari and the local MLA Umakanta Samantaray have been informed about the appalling condition of the school and have promised to take up the matter soon.
