Puri Jagannath temple to remain closed from Monday till Jan 31

Puri: The Jagannath temple in Puri will remain closed for devotees from Monday till Jan 31 in view of the Covid-19 surge in Odisha, informed Puri Collector and Deputy Chief Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Samarth Verma today.

According to Verma, the decision to close the temple was taken during a meeting of the Chhatisa Nijog as several sevayats (servitors) and staff of the temple administration have tested positive for Covid-19.

It is to be noted here that a total of 2703 Covid-19 positive cases including 926 from Khurda (highest single-day spike in the recent past) have been detected in Odisha in the last 24 hours. The total cases include 409 in the 0-18 years age group have been found, informed the Information & Public Relations (I&PR) Department.

Likewise, 54 persons of Puri districts tested positive for the deadly virus today.
