Around Rs 7.5 crore will be spent for the project under the Centre’s flagship Rajeev Gandhi Khel Abhiyan.
Confirming the news, Puri Collector Arvind Agrawal said that the project work would begin in the next two months.
“We had sent a proposal to set up a stadium in the Pilgrim Town and the Union Government has sanctioned Rs 7.5 crore for the purpose. We have decided to allot land near Talabania for the sports complex. The tender work will start after the detailed project report (DPR) is prepared,” said Agrawal speaking to Kalinga TV.
The collector said the stadium will have all necessary infrastructure for track and field events, besides indoor grounds for badminton, table tennis and basketball.
The proposed stadium will also have ultra-modern gym and fitness training facilities, gallery and lodging facilities for trainers and players.
