Publication of Byasakabi Fakir Mohan’s Autobiography: Court issues direction for return of manuscript

Cuttack: The Cuttack Commercial Court issued an important decision today in the matter of the publication of autobiography of Byasakabi Fakir Mohan Senapati, the legendary writer from Odisha.

The court has directed the person who had taken charge for publishing of the autobiography that he should return the poet’s handwritten manuscript and the digital format of the biography to the great grand-daughter of the legendary poet Prof Minakshi Dutt within one month.

Earlier, the court had issued an interim injunction on August 18 after controversy erupted regarding publication of autobiography of the noted writer. The great-grand daughter of Byasa Kabi had filed a suit in this regard.

It is to be noted that the biography of Byasa Kabi Fakir Mohan Senapati has been written by the poet himself as ‘Mo Jivani’. Dr. Deviprasanna Patnaik had come forward for its digitisation as well as publication. A contract had also been signed in this regard. However, later Dutta was not informed about the publisher of the work for which she approached the Cuttack.

After hearing of the case the court has directed Patnaik not to publish the autobiography.

Dr Patnaik had been given the manuscripts of ‘Mo Jivani’ along with Mahabharat and Ramayan written by Byasa Kavi. After the manuscript got digitised he should inform Dutta about the publication house. However, Patnaik did not informed, for which Dutta approached the court.
