Protest over youth’s death in accident hits rail service in Koraput

Koraput: Rail commuters faced a tough time in Koraput district today following a ‘rail roko’ staged by angry locals near Damanjodi Railway Station over the death of a man on Damanjodi-Bariguda track last night.

As per the report, the victim identified as Amir Beniya of Litiguda village, who worked in Nalco as a contract labourer had gone to his home in some work a couple of days ago. Amir was returning to his quarter located at Sector-3 of Damanjodi last night when got hit by a running train and died.

Locals rushed to the spot after the news of the victim’s death spread this morning and blockade rail tracks near Nalco Station in Damanjodi causing Koraput-Visakhapatnam DMU and Samaleswari Express to halt at Dumuriput and Koraput respectively.

Sunabeda SDPO along with IICs of Damanjodi, Sunabeda and Semiliguda rushed to the spot and tried to remove the blockade after having dialogues with the angry locals. Later, train service was restored following the grant of Rs 10,000 as ex-gratia to the kin of deceased from Red Cross fund.
