Balasore: Property worth more than Rs 30 lakh was gutted in a major fire that broke out at a cushion factory in Remuna industrial estate in the district on Thursday.
According to reports, the fire broke out at the cushion factory at around 11 AM. However, the dousing of the fire started only after the arrival of two fire brigades from the district headquarters town.
Though the exact reason behind the fire is yet to be known, the fire officials, from their preliminary investigation, claimed that short circuit had caused the inferno. They alleged that the factory has flouted fire safety guidelines as there were no fire safety equipment to control the fire.
Action will be taken against the factory authorities, if they are found guilty, said one of the firefighters. Investigation into the matter is on.
Notably, a fire had reportedly engulfed the factory last year as well.
