Prohibitory orders clamped in Malkangiri’s Jantapai after tribal protest

Malkangiri: In view of the palpable tension which prevails in the ‘Swabhiman Anchal’ Chitrakonda in Malkangiri district over the mysterious death of a local youth the district administration today imposed Section 144 of CrPC in and around Jantapai Weekly Hat. The hat was also closed down as a precautionary measure.

The move on the part of the administration came after thousands of tribal held a protest near the hat against the incident claiming the victim Raju Hantal had been killed by policemen during interrogation.

Ample numbers of SOG, DVF, and BSF personnel were deployed near the Jantapai Hat to prevent law and order situation from worsening.

Odisha Police DIG (South Western Range) and Malkangiri SP supervised the security preparedness after reaching the spot.

Notably, BSF officials had picked up Hantal allegedly on suspicion of being a Maoist from Ranginiguda village on September 13. He was found dead the next day triggering anger among tribal who alleged custodial death.
