Private bus workers’ strike hits bus service from Paralakhemundi

Paralakhemundi: Private bus service was badly hit at the Paralakhemundi bus stand following a strike call which was given by the Private Bus Workers’ Association on Saturday, in protest to an incident of attack on a conductor recently.

While the bus service was disrupted from Paralakhemundi to other cities in the state like Rayagada, Koraput, Jeypore, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar due to the strike, commuters traveling to Gumma, Kashinagar, Goshani, Mohana, R. Udaygiri and Nuagarh blocks of the district also faced trouble as around 144 buses remained off the roads.

As per the report, the victim bus conductor identified as Lokanath Sahu was thrashed by the owner of another bus last afternoon following a verbal duel over some issue. Sahu lodged a complaint at the Paralakhemundi Police Station in connection with the case later.

However, accusing the police of acting soft on the accused bus owner, staff of at least five buses started cease work from yesterday. The bus owners’ association extended its support to the agitating staffs today.

The agitating workers have warned to expedite the stir if police fails to act immediately on the accused.
