Prisoner sends threat letter to Odisha CM

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar: A threat letter to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, demanding a ransom of Rs 50 crore, was sent by a murder convict from Bilaspur district jail in Chhattisgarh, Police said.

The accused has been identified as Pushpendra Nath Chouhan, Bilaspur SP Arif Sheikh said.

40-year-old Chouhan, who belongs to Janjgir-Champa district in Chhattisgarh, has been serving jail term in dacoity and murder cases since 2009, he added.

The accused had sent the letter through post demanding Rs 50 crore from Naveen Patnaik, he added saying Odisha Police received the letter on August 25 and alerted their Bilaspur counterparts on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Chouhan has confessed to have writing the letter to Odisha CM, the SP claimed adding that his objective was only to garner public attention.
