Taking to his Twitter handle, the Chief Minister said, “Appeal all the members of Odisha Legislative Assembly, cutting across party lines, to extend unanimous support to elect the daughter of #Odisha- Smt #DraupadiMurmu to the country’s highest office.”

After the announcement of Murmu’s candidature yesterday, Patnaik congratulated her saying that it is a proud moment for the people of Odisha.

With this, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) became the first non-NDA party to announce support for Murmu.

It is said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called Patnaik ahead of announcing the BJP-led NDA’s candidate’s name (Draupadi Murmu) and sought his party’s support.
