Pregnant woman covers 10 kilometres on cot to access ambulance in Odisha

Nabarangpur: In yet another case of poor healthcare facility in the state, an expectant woman had to carried on a cot by her family members for around 10 kilometres before accessing an ambulance to reach hospital in the district on Monday.

The victim identified as Bimala Nayak of Kusumakhunti village under Maidalpur panchayat in Papadahandi block developed labour pain and needed an immediate hospitalization this morning. While her family members called up a 102 ambulance to rush her to Maidalpur CHC, it failed to reach the village due to poor muddy road which had further worsened due to heavy rain in last 3-4 days.

Finding no other option available, Bimala’s family members carried her on a cot and covered a distance of around 10 kilometers to reach Kantasaru village, from where they could be able to access an ambulance to reach the CHC.

The victim is currently admitted in the hospital where is condition is stated to be stable.
