Pregnant woman carried in makeshift stretcher to hospital in Nuapara

Nuapara: Unearthing the lacunas in the healthcare system in the remote parts of the State yet again, a pregnant woman was carried in a makeshift stretcher for more than three kilometres to reach hospital in Kapargarh village under Khadial block of Nuapara district yesterday.

As per the report, the victim identified as Gharamani Majhi, wife of Umashankar Majhi of the same village reported labour pain last afternoon post which his family intimated the ANM and ASHA workers and called up the ambulance service available under Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY).

However, due to the lack of a motorable road the ambulance failed to reach near the house of the expectant woman leaving his family with no other option than carrying her in a makeshift stretcher to Khadial Community Health Centre (CHC).

Gharamani has given birth to a male child at the hospital this morning and both the mother and the baby are safe now.
