Pramod Bhagat gets Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, Amit Rohidas and Birendra Lakra receive Arjun Award

New Delhi: Paralympics gold medallist from Odisha, Pramod Bhagat on Saturday received the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award.

President Ram Nath Kovind gave away the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award to Pramod Bhagat at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

Pramod Bhagat had won the gold medal after defeating Great Britain’s Daniel Bethell 21-14, 21-17 in the summit clash. With this, he won the first-ever gold medal in badminton for India in the Paralympics.

Likewise, Odisha’s hockey stars Amit Rohidas and Birendra Lakra also received the Arjun Award from the president. Both of them were part of the Indian hockey team which won the historic bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics earlier this year.

This was India’s first Olympic medal in hockey since they won the gold medal in the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. They won the bronze medal after a gap of 41 years by defeating Germany 5-4.
