Nabarangpur: Congress Leader and former MP Pradip Majhi has accused Nabarangpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivekananda Sharma of abusing and thrashing a dalit youth. Besides demanding the suspension of Sharma, Majhi has demanded strict action against the Nabarangpur Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) who was also allegedly involved in the incident.

According to Majhi, Sharma had thrashed the youth named Shravan Kumar when the latter had gone to his place to install a TATA Sky Dish connection. The SP allegedly started beating him after Kumar did not greet him.

At a press conference, Majhi said Shravan Kumar had gone to install TATA Sky connection at the SP’s house. However, he failed to recognise him and did not greet the SP which irked the latter. In a fit of anger, Sharma thrashed him mercilessly and handed him over to the IIC who confined Kumar for three days in guise of police custody.

Demanding disciplinary action against Sharma and Nabarangpur IIC, Majhi also warned of a possible bandh in Nabarangpur on December 4 if no action is taken against the duo.

On the other hand, Nabarangpur SP Vivekananda Sharma has denied all the allegations against him. He said that Pradip Majhi is pressurising the Police to release a youth accused in a kidnapping case and has cooked up this story when the Police refused to pay heed to him.
