Poll violence in Jajpur: 42 persons including Prime accused who attacked journalists arrested

Jajpur: Superintendent of Police (SP) of Jajpur district Rahul PR informed that a total of 42 persons including the prime accused who attacked journalists yesterday have been arrested.

According to the SP, the prime accused who beat up journalists has been identified as Rakesh Mallick. Apart from him, 10 of Mallick’s associates including 6 women also have been arrested and forwarded to the court for their involvement in the case. Cops also have detained several others for interrogation.

It is to be noted here that three journalists were beaten up while they were covering an alleged incident of booth rigging while the third phase of three-tier rural polls were underway in Binjharpur area of Jajpur district.

After people from all walks of life condemned the incident and demanded action against the culprits, the district police soon swung into action and made the arrests.

Journalist attacked in jajpur

Till now, as many as 42 persons have been arrested for their involvement in panchayat poll-related violence that occurred at different places of Jajpur district during the last three-phase rural election.

Meanwhile, Central Range IGP Narasingha Bhol and Jajpur SP are in Binjharpur to take stock of the situation. They assured that every individual who is involved in the attack of the scribes or other election-related violence will be arrested and stringent action would be taken against them.
