Police To Expedite Drive Against Ganja In Malkangiri
Malkangiri: In yet another case of ganja, Malkangiri police today seized ganja weighing 258 kilograms and arrested four accused in this connection. Police have also seized two vehicles used for transportation of the ganja.
Malkangiri SP, Jagmohan Meena said that the district police this year so far has seized 14000 kilograms of ganja. “We have also arrested as many as 120 accused including 41 from outside Odisha for illegal ganja trade. All concerned police stations have also been asked to expedite the drive against ganja,” said Meena.
Police said that ganja cultivation is the biggest source of income for Maoists and money generated through hemp cultivation is used in various violent activities. The Maoists have been encouraging forest dwellers to grow cannabis in forestlands and have also been providing them protection.
Police have also been taking the help of satellite images in inaccessible and interior areas on Maoist affected districts such as Kandhamal, Boudh, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput to destroy ganja cultivation.
