Cuttack: As many as five police personnel including IIC of Jagatpur police station in Cuttack were allegedly assaulted by villagers of Kapursing village under Gurudijhatia police limits today.
As per reports a team of five policemen led by IIC of Jagatpur police station Pradeep Kumar Nayak had been to the village to nab an accused of a kidnapping case.
The cops were dressed in plain clothes and were travelling in a car without a registration plate. The villagers suspecting them of being imposters allegedly gheraoed and attacked them. The mob also ransacked the car.
The accused however managed to escape taking advantage of the situation. Later policemen from local police station reached the spot and rescued the police team.
