Angul: Tension ran high in Gadasantri village under Banarpal Tehsil limits in the district early morning on Wednesday after police seized at least four cattle-laden trucks following which the miscreants also managed to snatch away the cows from them after few hours.

Two unidentified persons were arrested by police in the incident.

A joint team of Bantala and Banarpal Police led by Angul SDPO Harihar Pani came across the cattle-laden trucks near Santri Chhak during patrolling. After they verified the documents of the vehicles, it was found that at least 150 cattle were being transported to the neighbouring West Bengal State. The police team immediately seized the trucks and detained two persons.

However, things took an ugly turn after Pani ordered policemen to unload the cattle from the vehicles and gather at the Banarpal Market to avert cow deaths. Minutes after the cattle were gathered at the market, a group of aides of the illegal transporters reached there and snatched away them from police.

“We have registered a case and started an investigation to nab the culprits who snatched away the cattle from police,” said the SDPO.
