Police Register Case Against Villagers For Thrashing Forest Officials In Cuttack

Cuttack: Tigiria police last night registered a case in connection with the thrashing of forest officials at Haridapasi village after a wild elephant trampled a man to death on Saturday morning.

Police registered the case on the basis of a complaint filed by Sucharita Samantray, forester working under Athagarh forest division. Samnatray alleged that she threatened and manhandled by a mob.

 The case has been registered under sections 294 (use of obscene language), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) 341 (wrongful restraint), 353(assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty) 354 (outraging the modesty) 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of Indian Penal Code.

“The complainant has named three persons in her complaint and we are trying to nab them,” said a police official.

Tension erupted in the village after a man identified as Sarat Behera in elephant attack. The mob demanding compensation for the victim has also detained and attacked ranger Rabindra Nayak.
