Angul: A team of police personnel has been beaten by the locals in Sanjapada village under Banarpal police limits in Angul district of Odisha.
According to reports, the cops went to the village dressed up as general public to catch a thief due to which the villagers suspected them as child lifters.
The cops were beaten and their jeeps were vandalised by the locals.
The police team tried to explain themselves and reveal their identity while they were being attacked but the locals ignored it.
On being informed, the Banarpal police arrived at the spot and rescued the cops from the irate villagers.
Around two platoons police force have been deployed for maintaining peace.
However, all the villagers have gone into hiding fearing arrest.
