Mayurbhanj: Police officer under vigilance scanner. The incident has been reported from Jharadihi police outpost under Tiring police station of Mayurbhanj district.

The police outpost officer, Satyaban Giri (ASI) was extorting money from a local liquor dealer in Jharadihi by threatening him at various times.

Tamaray Mahali, a liquor dealer, had regularly complained to the Vigilance as he was repeatedly being harassed and outraged by the ASI.

The vigilance team raided the police station and caught the officer while taking a bribe of Rs 9,000 said officials.

A 15-member team led by DSP Santosh Samanta Ray, under the direction of Vigilance SP in Balasore, raided the village of Jharadihi, the ancestral village of Jamun Niali under Raruan.

The vigilance search continued till 11 pm at night in Giri’s office, his ancestral village and his residence. The police officer was later arrested.
