Police Officer Convicted In Odisha, Awarded 5 Years Rigorous Imprisonment

Jeypore: The Special Vigilance Court here today convicted a police officer and sentenced him five years of rigorous imprisonment for implicating a person in a false case and assaulting him at the police station in 2010.

The police officer Nalini Kanta Mohapatra was then posted as the IIC of Bissamcuttack police station in Rayagada district.

Mohapatra had threatened one Radhakanta Das to implicate him in a false case and had demanded a bribe of Rs 10000.

Later, the complainant had reported the matter to the anti-corruption agency and Mohapatra was subsequently caught red-handed while receiving the gratification.

The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 50000 on Mohapatra, failing which he would have to undergo an additional six months of jail term.
