Bhubaneswar: Police commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi today felicitated Babina Mahalik for thrashing two eve-teasers and forcing them to do sit-up in public in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
A video of the entire incident has gone viral on social media. Police said that the girl was felicitated for her courage to raise her voice against eve-teasing.
“Most of the time victims remain silent due to social stigma. But the girl not only defended herself but also taught a lesson to the eve-teasers,” said a police official.
The incident took place at GGP Colony when she was riding a scooter and the two youths followed her on a bike and passed lewd comments at her. After a few minutes, she raised an alarm on which a crowd gathered at the place and caught them.
Later, the woman thrashed the duo and forced them to do sit up in the public. The accused were seen begging apology with folded hands.
