Puri: A constable posted at Nimapara police station in the district was arrested for allegedly raping a woman several times. The accused Gangadhar Rout also allegedly took Rs 80000 from the victim by blackmailing her.
Police said that the accused came in contact with the victim last year when the woman had been to the Satyabadi police station to lodge a complaint. “Rout was then posted at Satyabadi police station. The accused later blackmailed her and raped her multiple times,” said a police official.
The victim had initially lodged a police complaint but later informed the matter to Puri SP. “The accused was arrested on Wednesday and was forwarded to the court today,” added the police official.
Rout was earlier arrested by Pipili police for duping job aspirants. He had allegedly issued fake appointment letters to job seekers in lieu of money.
