Bhubaneswar: Police today busted a motorcycle lifting gang in Bhubaneswar and arrested five members of the gang. Police have also recovered 24 motorcycles lifted by the gang.
The accused have been identified as Patitapaban Singh (23), Kashinath Das (25), Basanta Martha (28), Santosh Majhi (35) and Manoranjan Das (23), all residents of Khordha and adjoining areas.
Police said that the gang was busted after one Laxmidhar Behera lodged a police complaint of theft of his motorcycle from Ruchika Market on April 27. “The gang members used to target unauthorised parking lots to lift motorcycles. The gang has committed similar crimes in various parts of the city and has disposed the vehicles by forging changing registered numbers. The members also used to forge registration documents before selling the motorcycles,” said a police official.
