Police Bust The Gang That Wrecked Havoc On Streets Of Odisha Capital

Bhubaneswar: In a major success police have busted a nine-member gang which has wrecked havoc on Bhubaneswar streets in the month of June. While five of the gang members were nabbed after an exchange of fire last week, four other members have also been arrested.

Police have also arrested three more for receiving the stolen properties. Police have seized nine four-wheelers including four SUVs and eight motorcycles from the gang members. Besides police also seized five country-made pistols, gold ornaments weighing 224 grams and cash of Rs 50000 from the gang.

Police said that the gang is involved in more than two dozen cases of loot, robbery and snatching in Bhubaneswar and outskirts in June. “The gang members used to divide into two to three groups and commit crime at regular intervals. They used to assemble near Nayagarh and then travel Bhubaneswar with lethal weapons,” said a police official.

The gang members targeted people on NH, streets and other isolated areas in the state capital. The gang was also involved in loot of Rs 35 lakh from a hired vehicle of Indian Bank near Nakhara on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on June 14.

“ Further investigation is continuing to arrest the rest gang members and recovery of stolen properties,” said a police official.
