Balangir: Acting tough in the aftermath of Patnagarh Sub-Divisional Hospital baby stealing case, Balangir SP today suspended the Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Anadi Matari for thrashing the father of the baby yesterday.
Balangir SP K. Siva Subramani initiated the action against the accused ASI acting upon a complaint lodged by the victim and the father of the baby Rudramani Tandi of Telenpalli village.
Notably, a woman who pretended her to be an ASHA worker took away the baby from Rudramani’s wife Jayanti Tandi from Patnagarh Sub-Divisional Hospital yesterday and later fled away riding pillion on a motorcycle which was waiting outside.
As the family members of the stolen child blocked the Patnagarh-Balangir road in protest to the incident, the accused ASI reached the spot and thrashed Rudramani severely leaving him unconscious on the spot.
Locals also staged a protest against the police excesses and demanded action against the guilty official.
