Poacher Arrested With 11 Bird Carcasses In Chilika

Khordha: Forest officials in Tangi forest range have seized carcasses of as many as 11 migratory birds and have arrested a minor for poaching of birds.

Forest officials said that the accused was nabbed while he was transporting the carcasses of the Northern Pintails in his motorcycle.

Chilika Lake receives migrants from a wide range of breeding grounds extending from north, central and east Siberia, China and Mongolia, and west Asian countries such as Kazakhstan.

The forest department has also deployed several country boats and powerboats for patrolling purpose. “We have also requested the police to assist us in patrolling. Tangi wildlife is the most vulnerable place in terms of poaching. So adequate number of bird protection camps has been set up in the division,” said a forest official.
