Mahanga: A four-member team of Union Panchayati Raj Ministry visited Mahanga block on Wednesday to probe the alleged irregularities in the selection of beneficiaries for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
The team, which visited the Mahanga block office this morning, held discussions with the Block Development Officer (BDO) and Block Junior Engineer and verified vital documents pertaining to the allocation of funds for construction of ‘pucca’ houses under 14th Finance Commission through PMAY scheme.
Notably, the visit followed an order by the Union Pancyayati Raj Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on August 19. Tomar ordered for a spending audit following a letter from Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on July 24 drawing his attention towards irregularities in Barahipur gram panchayat. It was alleged that some BJD MLAs kept pressing local BDO and Panchayat Extension Officers (PEO) to include ineligible beneficiaries affilaiated with the ruling party in PMAY.
