At Platform 65, Visakhapatnam’s train themed restaurant, one gets to experience the amusement of trains serving food while sitting and dining inside a comfortable carriage. The restaurant serves food on miniature trains that keep running through tables.

Started about four months back, the restaurant has been drawing customers for its theme, ambience and experience. Stepping inside the restaurant feels like having entered a railway station. Upon entering, one can see an engine wagon placed right at the entrance, and illustrations of few well known places of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana adorning the walls. Every table placed here, is named after a railway station.

The first branch of the Hyderabad based restaurant chain started at Kukatpally Housing Board Colony in Hyderabad in late 2019. Keeping in mind the beautiful essence of train journeys and the love of Indian people for the same, the chain further expanded to five different other locations in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. It also plans to add five new branches by the end of this year.

Sadgun Patha, co-founder of Platform 65 said, “It took us six months of research and planning to bring in novelty in an over-saturated F&B market. Trains hold a universal appeal and we wanted to give that experience while offering a variety of multi-cuisine dishes on the menu.”

The restaurant serves dishes of several cuisines. The menu of the restaurant offers South Indian, North Indian and Chinese dishes and features local favourites like gongura mutton pulao, Andhra chicken curry, ulavacharu pulao, Nellore chepala pulusu and favourites such as schezwan noodles, chicken and veg soft noodles. It also caters to a special ‘Children’s menu’ offering  tossed chicken balls, honey finger chips, tandoor cheese stuffed mushroom, butter garlic prawn, cheese broccoli, rock chicken fried rice and classic mushroom, among others.

Dhana Lakshmi, executive director of Platform 65’s Visakhapatnam branch said, “We are in the process of adding more dishes to the children’s menu.” The interiors of the place are beautifully planned and executed. They showcase showcase the waterways theme with popular locations of Kerala, Venice and Amsterdam.  The restaurant provided 180-seating arrangement which includes enclosed 10-seating areas for small parties, gatherings or private celebrations. Each of the tables is attached to the main railway track which starts from the kitchen. Once the order is ready, it is delivered to the table through the trains. After the food is picked up by the customers on the table, the train returns back to the kitchen.
