Pink Autorickshaw with women drivers rolls in Rourkela

Rourkela: Women driven Pink Auto-rickshaw service was introduced in the Steel City Rourkela here on Thursday.

According to reports, as many as 21 Pink Autos were introduced to provide safe and secured journey to the girls in the city. Sundergarh Collector V Bharadwaj and Smart City CEO Monisha Banerjee handed over the battery operated three-wheelers to the women drivers in the first phase.

The State Bank of India (SBI) has provided a rebate of four percent on the loan amount while Odisha government has given a subsidy of 25 percent for purchasing the vehicles, said sources.

Notably, the Pink Auto-rickshaw system was introduced in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar earlier.  Now it has been launched here on the completion of one year since Rourkela was declared a Smart City.
