High CourtCuttack: Amid utter confusion among traders in Odisha over the implementation of the recently introduced Goods and Services Tax (GST), the All India Association of Tax Lawyers and Berhampur Tax Bar Association today filed a petition seeking changes in the the controversial tax reform move in the Orissa High Court today.

Terming the move as an attempt by the Centre to encroach on the rights of states, the petition sought simplification of the GST procedure and introduction of paper filing system. It said GST is a time consuming process and claimed that small traders are facing a lot of problem because of it.

Making around eight departments of both Centre and State Governments – namely Finance and Law, commercial tax, Board of Excise and Customs, GST Council New Delhi and GST Network parties in the case – the PIL demanded an immediate rollback of GST.
