‘Pet’ wild boar Dhud returns home in Keonjhar dist of Odisha: Watch

The real life incident about a tribal woman and her pet wild boar is making the rounds these days in Odisha. As per the latest news, the woman has managed to get back the wild boar that had been released into the jungle by the Forest Department officials seven days back.

As report says, two years back on a fine morning a tribal woman from Purusottampur village in Keonjhar district of Odisha named Kuntala Pendei had ventured into the nearby jungle in search of firewood when she came across a wild boar calf in a helpless condition. She brought it to her house in the village and brought up it as a pet. She even named it ‘Dhud”.

Dhud started living in Kuntala’s family as a child. It would play with other pets of the family. For the family of Kuntala, Dhud was a family member.

After getting to know about a wild animal is being kept as a pet in the village, the Forest department officials reached Kuntala’s home seven days ago and took away the wild boar as the law does not allows one to keep a wild animal as a pet in his/ her house. The officials later released it into the jungle. Kuntala requested the officials not to take away the animal from her, but as per the Wildlife Protection Act it is illegal to kill wild animals or keep them as pets at home. Hence, the Forest officials took away the wild boar.

Now, Kuntala was disheartened after getting separated from Dhud as it was like her offspring. From the next day she would visit jungle daily in search of the boar. She would loudly call out its name.

Finally her search ended today, as she managed to find the wild boar. She had taken food in a tiffin box with her for Dhud. As per reports, the family brought back the boar to their home. Now, Dhud is again living with the family as a family member.
