People Express Anguish Over Collection of Toll at Pipili

Puri: At a time when the entire country is working in unison to restore all kind of facilities in Puri, collection of toll by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at Pipili toll gate has raised many eyebrows. Cyclone Fani had made a landfall at Puri and had snapped all kind of connectivity to the district.

Many commuters travelling to the holy town are not only forced to pay the toll fee but also are forced to wait in long queues due to manual collection of toll. “It has been a week since we last communicated with our family members in Puri for which many of us are travelling to Puri to meet family members. Forcing people to wait for collection of toll is inhumane at this point of time,” said a commuter.

Besides cash crunch in the cyclone affected districts has also emerged as a another  problem for commuters while paying toll. “Lack of adequate cash in ATMs has created difficulties for refueling at petrol pumps and many of the commuters don’t have cash to pay the toll  . So the NHAI must stop collection of toll till normalcy is restored in Puri,” demanded another commuter.
