Patnagarh: Punjilal Meher, who was arrested in connection with the much hyped Patnagarh wedding parcel bomb blast case, which had shocked the entire state, applied for bail in the Balangir Additional District and Sessions Court on Thursday.
Punjilal’s lawyer, while speaking to the reporters, said, “We have presented our case properly and are hopeful that he will get bail. In case of rejection, he has the fundamental right to move the higher court for justice.”
Punjilal had planned and executed the parcel bomb crime single-handedly like a Bollywood thriller which killed newly married techie Soumya Sekhar Sahu and his grandmother Jemamani on February 23. Soumya’s wife Reema was severely injured in the incident.
Punjilal was identified as the accused and arrested by the Crime Branch after marathon interrogation. He had planned the crime to take revenge against Soumya’s mother Sanjukta Sahu, who was promoted to the post of Principal of Jyoti Vikas Junior College in Bhainsa, where he was teaching English.
Punjilal has been lodged in Patnagarh Sub-Jail.
