Patient Death: Villagers withdraw road blockade in Mahanga after 14-hours

Cuttack: Agitating locals of Pallisahi village of Mahanga block here ended their 14-hour-long road blockade which they had staged at Ostamula Chhak following death of a local girl due to alleged medical negligence at Cuttack SCB Medical yesterday.

The road blockade was lifted after Mahanga tehsildar Dillip Moharana handed over an ex-gratia of Rs 10,000 to the bereaved family of the deceased and assured for more compensation under government provision this morning.

Local BJP leader Sarada Pradhan met the blockaders earlier in the morning to hand over them Rs 10,000 financial assistance and assured more help by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Notably, the deceased girl identified as Geetanjali Jena (17) of Pallisahi village had been admitted to SCB yesterday. She was suffering from cancer and died under treatment. However, her family members blamed medical negligence at SCB for her death and resorted to road blockade at Ostamula Chhak by keeping the body with the help of hundreds of locals and demanded suitable compensation.

While, Salipur SDPO PK Jena reached the spot and tried to pacify the mob, his efforts went in vain.
