Bhubaneswar: In a further development in the mysterious death case of Parlakhemundi Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra, Crime Branch has filed a chargesheet of 300 pages against his wife Bidya Bharati Panda. CB has filed the chargesheet at Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) office in Paralakhemundi.

“Bidya Bharati is the accused. After recording statements of 81 persons, a notice has been issued to her under Section 41 of CrPC,” said Crime Branch ADG Sanjeeb Panda in a press meet.

Reportedly, a team led by Crime Branch DSP arrived in Paralakhemundi to file the chargesheet.

Earlier on Friday, Odisha Crime Branch ADG Sanjeeb Panda said that the Bidya Bharati did not try enough to extinguish the flames and save her husband while he was caught on fire. He also said that from the dying declaration, police investigation and the polygraph test (lie detection) of the concerned accused persons, Soumya Ranjan’s death was an accidental death. As no evidences of Parlakhemundi DFO Sangram Keshari Behera and cook Manmath Kumbha’s involvement in the case found in the case, they have been given a clean chit.

Worth mentioning that the deceased ACF Soumya Ranjan was found with around 90 percent burn injuries at his official quarters at Paralakhemundi on the night of July 11, 2021. The locals found him half-burnt at his residence, they took him to the Gajapati District Headquarters hospital (DHH) and after his condition deteriorated he was shifted to SCB medical & hospital in Cuttack. Later, he succumbed to the injuries at a private hospital in Cuttack on July 13.

Soumya’s family tried their best in demand of justice to their son. Statements of both the families were also recorded and call details of all the accused were also investigated.

In December 2020, Mohapatra was married to Bidya Bharati and lived at his official residence along with her.
