Paradip: Cargo operation has been severely affected in the Paradip Port as stevedore workers have staged cease-work protest in the port premises on Friday morning.

Over 2000 stevedore workers belonging to different companies, who have been engaged in cargo handling at the port, began their agitation at the prohibited areas of the port protesting against the illegal dismissal and transfer of workers.

Loader supervisors have also joined the protest in large numbers.

Sources said, the staff and drivers, led by their leader Sukanta Biswal, had earlier staged demonstrations many times against their overtime duty.  They have been demanding an eight-hour of duty every day.

However, Sukanta Biswal and other leaders were purportedly transferred by the authorities, the workers alleged.
