Panic Grips Balipatna After Gharial Spotted In Kuakhai River On Outskirts Of Odisha Capital

Bhubaneswar: Panic gripped locals of Balipatna, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar after a gharial was spotted in Kuakhai River this morning.

Locals said that the reptile was spotted between Haridaspur and Banguari region of the river. The locals also alleged that a goat had a narrow escape after the gharial tried to drag it into the river.

“A number of people depend on the river and the presence of the gharial has emerged as a threat. The authorities must capture and relocate it at the earliest possible,’ said a local.

The officials of Balipatna Forest range have launched an operation to trace the reptile. The forest officials have also started an awareness drive by using loudspeakers.
