Pangolin scales seized in Odisha, 15 detained

Mayurbhanj: Odisha police achieved a great success as huge quantity of pangolin scales have been seized from near Karanjia-Golei bypass road late on Thursday night, informed Karanjia Range Officer Pradeep Murmu. As many as 15 people have been detained in this connection.

Based on a reliable information about deal of pangolins, Karanjia police conducted a raid near Karanjia-Golei bypass road and seized huge quantity of pangolin scales.

The police handed over the pangolin scales to Forest department following which it estimated the worth to be around four crore rupees.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the involvement of others in the illegal trade and poaching.

Earlier on November 17, four kilograms pangolin scales has been seized and two poachers were arretsed at Dhalapathar in Khordha.

The Khordha Forest Division had laid a trap by posing as customers to nab the poachers. However, as the Pangolin died due to some unknown reasons, the poachers had brought the scales for deal.
