Bargarh: In yet another elephant attack related casualty in the state, a wild jumbo trampled a Panchayat Samiti member to death in Bandamunda village under Jharabandha block in the district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Dhoba Nayak (52), a member of Kandhadang Panchayat Samiti.
The tragedy struck Nayak while he was guarding his harvested paddy near the farmland late in the night. A jumbo which had sneaked into the village in search of food pounced on him and trampled to death on the spot.
The police and forest officials have reached the spot and seized the body for autopsy.
Compensation to the next of kin of the deceased will be provided as per the existing government provision in the incident, informed a forest department source.
