Pipili: Tightening the noose around the neck of corrupt officials at the panchayat level, Vigilance officials arrested a Gram Rojgar Sevak (GRS) of Sukala panchayat under Satyabadi block of Puri district on Saturday red-handed while taking bribe.
The held GRS has been identified as Chhabinarayan Panda.
As per the allegation against Panda, he had demanded a bribe of Rs 6000 from one Indramani Panda of Banrabada village to forward his application for Indira Awas Yojana house a few days back.
After Indramani lodged a complaint against the GRS at Puri Vigilance wing, the anti-corruption wing officials laid a trap and arrested the accused while taking an initial bribe amount of Rs 5000 at his office this morning.
The held GRS was making a huge sum of money by collecting bribe from the applicants of PMAY, Biju Pakka Ghar and MGNREGS for the past six years, said Vigilance sleuths.
