Panchayat Executive Officer held while taking Rs 2000 bribe in Ganjam

Bhanjanagar: Launching a crackdown on corrupt officials, Vigilance officials have arrested a Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) in Balaguntha block of Ganjam district red-handed while taking bribe from a staff of the panchayat office.

The accused has been identified as PEO of Udhura Panchayat Manoj Kumar Sahu.

The raid was conducted after one Panu Charan Sethi, who works as a Peon in a temporary post at Udhura Panchayat office lodged a complaint against Sahu accusing him of demanding a bribe to regularise his job.

Acting upon the complaint Berhampur Vigilance SP Mayadhar Swain ordered for a raid post which a trap was laid to nab the accused official. According to the plan a team of Vigilance officials nabbed Sahu while accepting Rs 2000 as bribe from Sethi last evening.

Later, raids were conducted at Sahu’s office and Bhanjanagar residence till late in the night yesterday and several important documents were checked and seized.

The held PEO will be produced at the Vigilance court today, informed Swain.
