Bhubaneswar: After failing to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the House Committee of Odisha Assembly on paddy MSP on Friday decided to meet President Ram Nath Kovind over its demand. This was informed BJD MLA Sanjay Das Burma after a meeting of the panel today.

“It is very unfortunate that the Prime Minister didn’t give time to meet the House committee. Therefore, we have decided to meet the President of India and submit him a memorandum urging for the hike of paddy MSP to Rs 2,930 per quintal,” said Das Burma post the meeting of the committee chaired by Speaker of the Odisha Assembly Pradip Kumar Amat.

He also came down heavily on the Odisha unit of BJP for absence of its two members in the meeting. He said that the saffron party is not concerned about the development of farmers.

KV Singh Deo and Bibhuti Bhusan Harichandan were the two BJP leaders who supposed to attend the meeting.

Notably, the state Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution to demand revision of MSP of paddy to Rs 2,930 per quintal. Later an all-party House Committee was constituted to discuss the issue with the Prime Minister. However, they could meet the PM as there was no response from the PMO.

It is worthwhile to mention here that the Centre had on July 4 increased the MSP for paddy by Rs 200 per quintal.
