Paddy MSP Hike: BJD to stage demonstration before Parliament on January 8

Bhubaneswar: Slamming the Central Government over its alleged ‘insensitivity’ to the problems of farmers across the country, the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today announced to stage a demonstration before Parliament House at New Delhi on January 8.

Informing on the decision at a press conference here today, senior BJD leaders Prasanna Acharya, Debi Prasad Mishra, Sanjay Dasburma and Pratap Jena came down heavily upon the Modi Government for not keeping his promise of increasing paddy Minimum Support Price (MSP) made during last General Election in the country. They also criticised the Central Government for not implementing MS Swaminathan Committee report.

“The Prime Minister has no time to hold a discussion on farmers’ issue with the Odisha Assembly House Committee,” alleged the leaders.

“We demand that the MSP of paddy should be hiked to Rs 2,930 per quintal for Odisha farmers,” they added.

As per the decision, BJD MLAs, MPs, Zilla Parishad members along with party workers will leave for New Delhi in a special train on January 6. After arriving in the capital city on January 7, they would take part in protest the next day.
