Over 25 labourers injured as tractor overturns in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur: More than 25 labourers were severely injured after a tractor, in which they were travelling in, overturned near Phupugam under Jharigam police limits in Odisha’s Nabarngpur district on Tuesday.

The injured persons were rushed to Community Health Centre in Jharigam. However, seven labourers among the injured were shifted to the District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) here as their condition deteriorated. One person was reportedly critical and was put on a ventilator at the DHH, when the last reports came in.

According to reports, around 40 labourers, mostly women, were travelling in the ill-fated vehicle from Purniguda to Sariapada in Jharigam area for working in maize farmland.

The mishap occurred when the driver lost control over the starring and the vehicle overturned into a roadside pit while he was taking a curvy turn near Phupugam.

The injured persons belong to poor families and they make their ends meet by working as agricultural labourers, locals said.

Meanwhile, Jharigam police registered a case and began an investigation into the matter.
